Does soda really hurt teeth?

Soda is extremely acidic and over time can gradually wear away the enamel in your teeth. But soda isn’t the only culprit, there is high acid content in other beverages such as fruit juices, sport drinks, wine and vinegar. You don’t need to cut these things out of your diet, you just need to be aware of moderation and make sure to rinse your mouth with water, follow with a neutral beverage or food or brush your teeth.

Some other tips include:

  • Neutralizing acidic beverages & foods with milk, cheese or water.
  • Avoid acidic beverages & foods close to bedtime.
  • Avoid acidic beverages & foods while exercising
  • Consume acidic beverages with a straw

Please be aware that wearing away the enamel on your teeth can cause sensitivity and problems down the road. It is always a good thing to have your teeth checked and cleaned regularly by a dental professional.
