Toothbrushes – hard or soft bristle??

I get asked this question quite frequently —

Should I use a hard bristle toothbrush or soft bristle?

I recommend using a soft bristle toothbrush for regular use.
WHY??

HARD BRISTLE BRUSHES AREĀ  HARMFUL TO:
1. GUMS
2. DENTIN (THE SOFTER TOOTH STRUCTURE BENEATH THE ENAMEL)

Why does this matter and what are the long term affects of using a hard bristle brush?

1. GUM RECESSION WHICH CAN LEAD TO TOOTH SENSITIVITY
2. DENTIN ABRASION

We see so many varieties of toothbrushes sold in the stores and the bulk of them are medium bristle brushes. Find a soft brush and prevent problems in the future.
